Have you ever finished a book and wished you could stay in that world a little longer? Maybe you wanted to walk through the enchanted forest, sit at the mysterious table, wear the elaborate dress, or meet the characters you had spent hundreds of pages getting to know. Maybe you have watched a movie or played a game and thought, “I wish I could step inside this world.”

There is something wonderful about stories that make us feel that way. They give us somewhere to go when we need a break from ordinary life, and they remind us that imagination is still a part of who we are.
That feeling is at the heart of The Starlight Gathering: House of Stories, an upcoming fantasy retreat created by The Bright Stars Greenroom. It is an opportunity to step away from the everyday and into an experience centered around fantasy, creativity, storytelling, connection, and a little bit of magic.
Because perhaps we don’t actually outgrow the worlds that once captivated us. We just grow up and become busy.
We Don’t Outgrow Imagination
As adults, life can become very practical very quickly. There are jobs to do, bills to pay, responsibilities to manage, and people who need us. Being productive is often celebrated, while spending an afternoon creating something simply because it makes us happy can feel like a luxury.
But creativity is not a luxury, and imagination is not something we are supposed to leave behind when we grow up…
In fact, giving ourselves permission to play, create, dress up, tell stories, make art, or explore another side of ourselves can be a wonderful way to reconnect with the parts of us that everyday life tends to quiet.
That is one of the reasons a fantasy retreat can be such a meaningful experience. You aren’t simply taking a vacation. You are intentionally stepping into an environment where imagination is welcome.
You get to ask questions that don’t always have room in our normal routines: What would I create if I wasn’t worried about whether it was practical? What character would I become? What story would I tell? What would happen if I gave myself permission to play again?
Sometimes those questions lead somewhere surprisingly meaningful!
Why Fantasy Gives Us Permission to Play
Fantasy has a unique way of removing the rules.
A fantasy world can be mysterious, beautiful, strange, dramatic, whimsical, or completely impossible. It doesn’t have to follow the rules of everyday life, and that freedom can make it easier for us to experiment.
You can become a character for an afternoon. You can put together an outfit you would never normally wear. You can create photographs that feel like they belong in another world. You can write, act, make something with your hands, or simply spend time talking with people who love stories as much as you do.
There is no requirement that you turn any of it into a career. You don’t have to be a professional artist, actor, writer, photographer, or performer to be creative. You simply have to be willing to follow your curiosity.
That is one of the things we love about creative retreats for women. They can provide a little breathing room from the expectation to always be accomplishing something and create space to simply experience something.

There Is Something Different About Creating Together
We can experience stories on our own, but there is something special about sharing that experience with other people.
There is a particular kind of connection that happens when you meet someone who understands why you still get excited about fantasy worlds, elaborate costumes, characters, books, photography, storytelling, or the possibility of creating something completely new.
You don’t have to explain why it matters because they already understand!
The Bright Stars Greenroom was created around that idea of bringing creative people together in spaces where they can connect, explore, and give themselves permission to experience something outside their everyday lives, and The Starlight Gathering: House of Stories Retreat takes that idea and places it inside a fantasy-inspired world.
This isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not. It’s about giving yourself the opportunity to explore another part of yourself.
What Makes The Starlight Gathering Different?
The Starlight Gathering is designed as an immersive fantasy retreat where storytelling and creativity become part of the experience itself.
Rather than simply attending a retreat and following a schedule of activities, you’ll be stepping into a world that encourages you to engage your imagination. There will be opportunities to create, connect, be photographed, explore characters and stories, and spend meaningful time with other women who love the magic of storytelling.
For us, the experience is less about escaping who you are and more about remembering how many different sides of you already exist.
Maybe you’re the woman who spends her weekdays answering emails and managing a household, but somewhere inside her is an adventurer. Maybe you’re a photographer who wants to create images that feel like they belong in another world. Maybe you’ve always loved fantasy but haven’t had many opportunities to actually participate in it.
Or maybe you simply miss doing things because they’re fun. If so, then you belong here, too.
You Don’t Have to Be “Creative Enough”
One of the biggest misconceptions about a creative retreat is that you need to consider yourself an artist before you can participate.
You don’t, I promise. You don’t need a portfolio or any kind of professional experience. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to create either.
You can come because you love fantasy and because you want to meet new, positively bright and caring creative women.
You can come because you’re curious, and because you’ve been telling yourself for years that you’ll make more time for yourself someday, and you’re finally ready to make that someday happen.
A creative retreat can be an opportunity to remember that creativity isn’t reserved for people with impressive résumés. It belongs to all of us.

What If You Could Step Inside the Story?
This is the question we keep coming back to… What would it feel like to spend several days surrounded by people who love stories and imagination as much as you do?
What would it be like to see yourself in a completely different setting, perhaps dressed as someone you’ve imagined, surrounded by photographs and experiences that feel like they belong somewhere beyond ordinary life?
What would happen if you stopped worrying about whether you were “too old” for fantasy, “not creative enough,” or too busy to play?
Maybe you would laugh more, and make a new friend. Maybe you would discover something about yourself, or simply just have an incredible weekend that you will remember for years to come.
We don’t always need an experience to change our entire lives. Sometimes it only needs to remind us that there is more to life than our routines.
Come Meet Us in Orlando
If The Starlight Gathering sounds like something you’d love but you’d like to meet us first, we have an opportunity to do exactly that.
On October 16, The Starlight Gathering Retreat (powered by The Bright Stars Greenroom) will have a booth at The Moirae Sisters Booktique in Orlando. We’ll be there sharing more about The Starlight Gathering: House of Stories and connecting with fellow lovers of books, fantasy, creativity, and storytelling.
Shannon will actually be working a modeling commitment during the event, so she won’t be the one behind the booth that day. But her co-host, Jackie Brochetti, will be there and is absolutely looking forward to meeting you, answering questions, and talking all things Starlight Gathering.
So if you’re in Orlando, come say hello. Tell Jackie about your favorite fantasy world. Ask about the retreat. Browse the shop. Or simply come see what we’re creating.
You never know when a simple conversation will turn into your next adventure!

Maybe It’s Time to Make Room for a Little Magic
We spend so much of our adult lives being responsible that sometimes we forget how good it feels to be curious.
We forget that play can matter, and we forget that dressing up just because we want to can be enough of a reason. We forget that creativity doesn’t always need to become a business, a finished project, or something we can check off a list.
Sometimes creativity can simply be an experience, and that is what we hope to create with The Starlight Gathering: House of Stories.
A place where you can step away from the ordinary for a little while, surround yourself with stories and imagination, meet other creative women, and give yourself permission to experience something different.
There are still spots available for this upcoming fantasy retreat in Florida, and we’d love for you to join us.
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to make room for a little more creativity, connection, and adventure in your life, maybe this is it.
Maybe you don’t need to wait for the story. Maybe you can step inside it instead!
